Prompt Engineering Reflection

Throughout this process, I used specific and progressively refined prompts to optimize my resume for a wildlife ecology audience. I began by asking Chat GPT for an “alternate version of my resume targeted towards wildlife ecology,” and then followed up with more focused prompts such as “tailor this using my original resume” and “add field and outdoor skills.” These follow-up prompts helped ensure the content stayed accurate while becoming more aligned with my intended career path.

Between the original and AI-generated versions, the main changes included reframing my work experience to highlight transferable skills like leadership, adaptability, and teamwork in ways that relate to environmental careers. I also added sections like an objective and field skills to better match industry expectations. Rather than changing my experience, the wording shifted to emphasize relevance to outdoor and conservation roles.

This process taught me prompt engineering is about being clear and specific. Small adjustments in prompts can significantly improve the output. I also learned how important it  is to tailor content to a specific audience, as the same experiences can be presented differently depending on the career field.
